「➊Sartorial Simplicity」
Ah! Oh, ➋blimey, that is the best part of the day. You know, I’m no different to you, really. I work all day, too. And there’s a lot of ➌tension in my life. I mean, I feel like I’m being pulled in two different directions ... ➍literally! So, yeah, it feels extremely satisfying when I can ➎let go at the end of the day and just relax.
Don’t worry. I’m built for tension. Look at the materials I’m made of — nice, thick leather. Shiny steel. I’m traditional that way. My family, ➏mind you, can be made of all kinds of materials. I’ve got siblings and cousins who are made of fabric, rope, plastic — some are even made entirely of little pieces of metal all joined together. But we’ve all got the same long, thin, ➐flexible body. That’s the way we work.
Now, my plastic relatives? They just can’t take the same amount of stress as me. Really, they’re only in this job ➑for the sake of fashion. They work with dresses mostly. And don’t ➒get me wrong! ➓There’s nothing wrong with working with a dress! I mean, I know I sound a little ⓫rough around the edges, but I’m wall about fashion myself! Certainly, most of the workday, I’m hidden under my owner’s suit jacket, but I’m ⓬on full display when he takes it off. So I’ve got to be ... simple. Elegant. A ⓬tasteful black circle around his waist, right? But I also need to be practical. Can’t let him ⓭get caught with his pants down, if you know what I mean.
But, like I said, it definitely is good to get pulled free of those loops at the end of the day and ⓮hang out in the closet. Fashion or not, sometimes you’ve just got to relax.

「仕立てのシンプルさ」
ああ！まあ、やれやれ、一日のうちで今がいちばんです。ねえ、皆さんと変わりませんよ、本当に。私も一日中働いております。しかも、非常に気を張った生活です。つまり、2つ別の方向に引っ張られているように感じるのです・・・文字どおりね！ですから、そう、一日の終わりに力を抜いて、ただほっとしているときは、まったく申し分ありません。
ご心配には及びません。ぴんと張った状態でいるのが、私の仕事なんです。私が作られている素材をご覧ください─素晴らしい、分厚い革。つややかなスチール。私はそういう伝統にのっとっております。私の家族は、念のため申し上げると、あらゆる種類の素材で作られます。きょうだいやいとこには、布地や、ひも、プラスチックで作られたものや─小さな金属をひたすらすべてつなげて作られたものもおります。ですが、私たちは皆同じく細長くて、薄くて、柔軟な体をしています。みんな、そういう作りなんです。
さて、プラスチックの親戚のことですか？彼らは私ほどストレスには耐えられませんがね。実のところ、彼らがこの仕事をしているのはファッションのためだけなのです。彼らはたいていワンピースと一緒に仕事をします。ええ、誤解なさらないでください！ワンピースと仕事をするのは何も問題ありません！つまり、粗削りな感じがするのはわかっていますが、私自身も、ファッションがすべてです！確かに、平日のほとんどはご主人のスーツの上着の下に隠れていますが、ご主人が上着を脱げば、丸見えになります。ですから、私に求められるのは・・・シンプルさです。優雅さ。ご主人の腰まわりに上品な黒い円を描きます。そうでしょう？それでいて、私には実用性も求められます。文字どおり、ご主人のズボンがずり落ちているところなど、見られてはなりません。おわかりですよね。
ですが、先程も申し上げたように、一日の終わりに輪っかから外されて、クローゼットにつるされるのは間違いなくいいものです。ファッションとは無関係に、時にはただリラックスする必要があるのです。
