「❶Home Sweet Home」
Ah, now this is the best part of my day — when my owner is out and I’ve been cleaned up by the humans. Now I can ➋gaze out the window and enjoy the sunlight for a little while. It’s a ➌shame that they cover me up all night. I so rarely get to see the sunrise. I understand why, of course. If they didn’t cover me, my owner would ➍bother everyone all night with that ➎racket he makes. I’ve heard that some of my siblings have owners that enjoy singing. That would be nice. But mine, sadly, is just ➏plain noisy.
I suppose calling him my owner isn’t exactly correct. I mean, some might argue that I’m his owner — or that the humans own us both! But if a person lives in a house, they call that person the “owner,” don’t they?
Yes, yes. I know some ➐negative people might say I’m more like a prison than a house. And they’d probably ➑point to my little metal bars, ➒as if to prove their point. But I’m hardly a concrete ➓jail cell! First of all, I’m ⓫delicate and light, and my metal bars are painted a lovely yellow color right down to my ⓬detachable plastic floor. My siblings are often ⓭cheery colors, too. In fact, some of us can be quite ⓮decorative, with pretty ⓯curlicues and designs on our bars! After all, we need to look good in the corner of a room. Inside, I have a nice, little mirror for my owner to look into, plenty of food and water, and comfortable ⓰wooden perches for him to sit on. I think he rather likes me.
And besides, the humans let my owner out to walk — and fly — freely around the house while I get cleaned. I’m sure he enjoys that ⓱every bit as much as I do.

「わが家が一番」
ああ、今この時間が一日のうちで一番よ―ご主人さまがお留守で、私は人間にきれいに掃除してもらったところ。今しばらくの間は、窓の外を眺めながら日の光を楽しめるわ。夜はずっと覆いをかけられてしまうから残念なの。めったに日の出が見られないもの。もちろん理由はわかっているわ。私に覆いをかけないと、ご主人さまが大騒ぎをして、夜通し皆を困らせるから。私のきょうだいたちによると、歌うのを楽しむご主人さまもいるんですって。それなら、すてきでしょうね。でも私のご主人さまときたら、悲しいことに、まったく騒がしいだけなの。
彼を「ご主人さま」と呼ぶのは、厳密には正しくないと思うけど。つまり人によっては、私が彼のご主人さまだ─あるいは、人間が私たち両方のご主人さまだって主張するかも！でも、家に住んでいる方が「ご主人さま」って呼ばれるのよね？
ええ、そうよ。否定的な人は、私のことを家というよりは牢屋（ろうや）に近いと言うだろうってわかっているわ。しかも、自分の主張を証明するかのように、私の小さな鉄格子を指さしたりしてね。でも私はコンクリート製の独房なんかじゃないわ！第一、私は華奢（きゃしゃ）で軽いし、鉄格子だってきれいな黄色に下まで塗られていて、プラスチックの床は取り外せるの。きょうだいたちも暖かみのある色が多いわ。中には実際、かなり装飾的で、格子にもかわいい渦巻きや模様が付いてるきょうだいもいるのよ！結局、部屋の隅にいる私たちだって、見栄えをよくする必要があるんだわ。私の中にあるのは、ご主人さまが見るすてきな小さい鏡と、たくさんの食べ物や水、ご主人さまが座る居心地のよい止まり木。彼だって私のことを気に入っているはずよ。
しかも、私を掃除している間、人間はご主人さまを出して、家の中を自由に歩き回り─そして、飛び回れるようにしているの。きっとご主人さまは私と同じくらい存分に楽しんでいるわ。
