IBM Japan to hire 1,000 in its largest domestic mid -career recruitment to expand DX talent
IBM Japan will recruit at least 1,000 mid -career employees in fiscal 2021, double the previous year's number. A growing number of client companies are working on digital transformation (DX), so it will expand the number of employees that handle it. Companies such as Hitachi, Fujitsu and NEC have also increased their mid -career hires significantly in the last few years, but the scale of 1,000 people makes it one of the largest ever in Japan for IT ( information technology). Competition over the acquisition of highly- skilled workers, of which there is a shortage, is intensifying.
In addition to recruiting from competing IT companies, it will also recruit human resources widely from other industries. As well as recruiting through job-seeking websites and agents, it will also recruit through employee introductions and other means, aiming to acquire at least 1,000 workers. From fiscal 2018 to 2020, IBM's mid -career recruitment was around 500 to 600 people. "In DX projects, it's necessary to carefully listen to the client companies' issues and demands for their business transformation , but we are nowhere near having enough highly skilled talent like that," said Akio Yamaguchi, president of IBM Japan.
Major IT companies are intent on acquiring human resources who will handle DX operations. Hitachi hired 400 mid -career employees in fiscal 2020. It increased the number by 100 people from 300 in the previous fiscal year . It will set up digital human resources recruitment courses and also set salaries individually in order to move forward with recruitment in an advantageous manner .

競合のIT企業のほか、他業界からも広く人材を募る。求人サイトやエージェントを介した募集に、社員の紹介なども加え1000人以上の獲得を目指す。IBMの中途採用は2018年度から20年度まで500～600人程度だった。「DX案件では、顧客企業の課題と事業変革に対する要望を丹念に聞き出す必要があるが、そういった高度人材は全く足りていない」と日本IBMの山口明夫社長は話す。
IT大手はDX業務を担う人材の獲得に余念がない。日立製作所は20年度に400人を中途採用した。前年度の300人から100人増やした。採用を優位に進めるため、デジタル人材採用コースを設け、給与も個別に設定する。

ニュースのポイント
英語ニュースでは、第1文（IBM Japan will recruit at least 1,000 mid -career employees in fiscal 2021, double the previous year's number.）のように、ある情報の後にそれを言い換えて追加の情報を加えることが頻繁に見られます。1,000 mid -career employeesをdouble the previous year’s number.で言い換えています。doubleには「～の倍の」という意味の形容詞の働きがありますから、「前年の数値の倍に当たる1,000人の中途採用者」ということになります。
次のA growing number of client companies are working on digital transformation は「デジタルトランスフォーメーションに 取り組む 顧客企業が増えている」という意味ですが、主語にA growing number of という説明がついているのが日本語にはない構造ですね。
第1段落最後の文ではhighly- skilled workersに関する補足説明がカンマの後に続きます。there is a shortage of highly- skilled workersという文で補足説明をしているわけですが、関係詞の前の前置詞ofも一緒に関係詞節の先頭にくる構造に慣れていないと瞬時に意味をとらえるのが難しいかも知れません。何度か繰り返して聞いたり口にしたりして慣れることおすすめします。
第2段落第2文のaiming to acquire at least 1,000 workers.は、it will also recruit through employee introductions and other meansという主節に追加の情報を加えるために、主語itを省略して動詞を現在分詞に変えた形です。
第2段落最後の文のnowhere nearは「～の近くのどこにもない」＝「ほど遠い」という感じです。
