オノ・ヨーコにジェーン・フォンダ・・・ウーマンリブ時代に生まれた名言がかっこいい！

今年、創刊50周年を迎える『ENGLISH JOURNAL』（EJ）。創刊当時から、ハリウッドスターや世界的なアーティスト、文化人の方々のインタビューを掲載してきました。そこには長い年月がたっても色あせない言葉があふれています。その中から今回は、時代が反映されている言葉や心に残る言葉をピックアップしてご紹介します。

1970年代

1960年代に始まった「ウーマンリブ」と呼ばれる女性解放運動や、ゲイ解放運動、黒人解放運動、環境運動などが活発だった時代。日本の多くの若者が海外の文化や音楽に興味を持ち始めたのもこの頃でした。

I have mixed feelings about women’s liberation, because I consider myself a liberated woman, in the sense that I’m very independent and I’ve always had a career and worked for my living, but I don’t really approve of the fact that women are competing too much on the same level as men and they lose their femininity, and relationships between men and women become very difficult.

ウーマンリブについては、いろんな気持ちが私の考えの中にあります。私自身、仕事を持っている上に自活しているわけですから、自由な女だと思っています。けれど、女性が男性と同じレベルでどんどん競争して、女性が女性らしさをなくしてしまい、男女の関係が難しくなるという事実は認めたくないものです。
