With the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, the way patients visit doctors has changed. According to a survey of trends from January to September 2020 by the National Federation of Health Insurance Societies, or Kenporen, it was revealed that medical consultations by patients for 20% of 133 illnesses, such as the common cold and rhinitis, decreased significantly during the state of emergency declaration, and the patients have continued to avoid doctor visits even after the declaration was lifted. One reason for this is that individual coronavirus prevention measures have led to the prevention of other illnesses.

Kenporen has recently compiled the medical fee receipts of people under the age of 65 who belong to health insurance societies with a total of over 13 million members. The increase and decrease in consultations was investigated for the 133 illnesses with a large number of outpatients.

The results could be categorized into three groups: 1) illnesses of patients whose visits decreased significantly during the state of emergency and were slow to return, 2) illnesses of patients whose visits decreased but returned afterward, and 3) illnesses that saw no significant increase or decrease in patient visits.

Illnesses that saw a slow return of patients include acute nasopharyngitis (cold), bronchitis, nasal allergies, and asthma. These account for 20% of the 133 illnesses surveyed.

For example, in April and May of 2020, the number of patients with nasal allergies fell by 40% compared to the same months of the previous year. Even in June-September, when the government's state of emergency declaration was lifted, a 20-30% decline continued. By age group, the number of consultations for 0-14 year olds decreased significantly.

患者の戻りが鈍かった疾患は、急性鼻咽頭炎（かぜ）や気管支炎、鼻アレルギー、ぜんそくなど。133の調査対象のうち2割を占めた。

例えば、鼻アレルギーでは20年4月と5月に患者数の落ち込みが前年同月比で4割減となった。政府による緊急事態宣言が解除された6～9月も2～3割減という状態が続いた。年代別に見ると、0～14歳の受診が大きく減っている。
